BIKES
10 years ago, it was a challenge to find bike rentals. Today, there are several. Our family rented bikes from OLA BIKES. This rental shop is down the road that takes you to the beach road. It is also across the street from one of the two large grocery stores. Bikes are well maintained and there are options for families. We have a 4 and 6 year old. Both started riding bikes independently at 3 but because Mexico and the Tulum beach road can get congested, we have rented bikes with child seats attached. OLA BIKES has child bikes available as well (for older kids). In April of 2019, bike rentals were about $10 per bike, per day. OLA BIKES offers some helmets. *Cool off with a paleta or helado at a converted VW bus!

BIKE PATHS
From OLA BIKES, there is a 10 minute bike/pedestrian path to the beach road. It is awesome since it is physically removed from the road for cars. As of April 2019, it is also lit with lights along the way. It is bustling with bikes, scooters and runners.
Once you get to the beach road, know that you will be sharing the narrow road with cars, taxis, water trucks and construction vehicles. There are no bike paths at beach road. In our experience, most cars are used to sharing the narrow road with bikes. We consider ourselves experienced bike riders but felt safe biking and having kids in tow.
BIKING IN TULUM TOWN
Just in the past two years, Tulum has been working to construct bike paths on the main highway where you find many shops and restaurants. They are removed from the highway and marked green. Many restaurants have places to lock up bikes but you might have to get creative on side streets.
SCOOTING
When you stay at #casamuralestulm you will have access to 2 adult and 2 kids scooters.
In Town: Adults can easily scoot into town- reach the city center in 10 minutes. There are bumpy parts of the scoot getting into town but once there, pop onto the newly constructed bike/scoot lane. With smaller kids, we will drive into town with the scooters in the trunk. Our family will often scoot around together.
To Beach: Our family crossed the busy highway intersection via car, parked at the Chedraui (ched- ra- we) and scooted down the paved path- reach the Papaya Beach Club in about 20 minutes with kids in tow. *Parent hack: Bring water, sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. Give out a gummy worm every 2 bus stops to keep them scooting. From Papaya, walk into the first section of restaurants and shops or take a taxi further along the beach road for about $5.
